Marketing Plan Tip: Create A Success Poster

Friday, February 29th, 2008

By Debbie LaChusa Here’s a fun way to help you achieve your goals that really works. Plus it’s a little more exciting than just writing down a few goals, or an objective, in your marketing plan. This method actually brings them to life, and puts them in frontof you everyday so you’re constantly focused on making them happen. Create what I call a “Success Poster” What’s a Success Poster? It’s a visual or graphic representation of your vision of success. First You Need To Create A Vision The first step in creating a success poster is to sit down, close your eyes and envision the success you want to create with your business. Ask yourself what you want your business to look like one year from today. Think in terms of your ideal success. Dream big. Think of all the little things you would love to have happen in your business and in your life. Think about how many clients you’ll be helping and the material results of your success. Consider what other results you’d love to have … coverage of your business in the news media perhaps? Picture yourself delivering your products or services … what does that look like in your ideal world? The Second Step is to Create Your Poster Get a piece of paper or cardstock and some colored markers or crayons. The size or your poster is up to you. Just pick a size you can easily post on a bulletin board or the wall above your workspace. The idea is to have it somewhere you can see it every day. On the paper, draw elements of what you envisioned. Write words. Create a picture that represents all the success you see yourself achieving in the next year. Make it colorful. Make it fun. Make it represent YOUR dream. I did this exercise last January and my poster is hanging on a bulletin board right above my computer. Every day as I work, I can easily look up and see my success poster and all the vignettes representing my success that I set as goals at the beginning of the year. It’s Your “Inspiration Magnet” It’s wonderful inspiration to see these visions of success as I work on my business. And the best part is, they’re coming true! It’s also great when I’m having a tough week. Because I can always look up and remember why I’m working so hard. It reminds me of what I’m trying to create. It reminds me of the people I’m helping. And, the smiling faces of my family, my clients and ME! And ultimately it reminds me of the success I know I will achieve - I know it’s inevitable and is just a matter of time. Use Your Success Poster to Write Your Goals From your vision and your success poster, you should create written goals, and one or two measurable objectives. And then you should create a marketing plan to get you from where you are right now, to this place you have envisioned. This process brings your goal of success to life. It makes it “real,” making it much easier to work toward than just a couple of sentences written on a piece of paper. It Also Uses the Law of Attraction If you understand the Law of Attraction, you know what you focus on expands. When you’re in sync with the good, positive vibration your vision creates, things seem to magically happen to move you in the direction of that vision. I’m not sure how it works, but it does! I’ve seen evidence of it in my life and with others. Unfortunately, the opposite is also true. Spend all your time focusing on what you don’t have or what’s not happening with your business and guess what? You’ll perpetuate that. Yuck! The Choice is Yours I say go for the gusto and dream big. Then keep your eyes and your mind glued to that vision and watch it come true! Riding Lawn Mowers

Friday, February 29th, 2008

By Max Bellamy Riding lawn mowers are ideally suited for lawns that are large. The gadget makes lawn mowing less laborious. Generally a lawn exceeding 1,440 square yards is regarded as one where the use of riding mower is essential. These mowers can be maneuvered more flexibly around tight edges, but are quite costly. A majority of these machines scythe the grass blade, making use of the horizontal rotating blade system with multiple blades. Prior to purchasing a riding lawn mower, it should be borne in mind that they are more costly in terms of both buying price and handling costs. Riding lawn mowers emit a great deal of noise and cause pollution. They are generally considered a tough proposition as far as maintenance is concerned, compared to all other forms of lawn mowers that are in use. Before a riding lawn mower is bought, it is vital to examine the yard. Impediments that one needs to overcome while operating a riding lawn mower, including stumps and trees, should also be given adequate thought. As far as the purchase of a riding lawn mower is concerned, its deck size or blade size should be judged properly. Also to be closely observed is the position of the engine, whether it is in the rear or mounted upfront. Also of crucial importance is the turning radius, or ability of the riding lawn mower to maneuver. It is wise to carefully note the speed controls, which include alternatives similar to foot pedals, hand lever clutches or hydrostatic drive systems without a clutch. The bagging mode and the price are of vital significance. Since riding mowers are highly priced, they must be kept in a secure place, well locked, to prevent theft. Foods To Avoid That Cause Bad Breath

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

By Harold Katz Did you know that there are specific foods that may lead to bad breath? This is because of volatile sulfur compounds - the culprit in causing bad breath! For example, if food sits out too long it will spoil. That spoiling action is due to anaerobic bacteria breaking down proteins in that particular food. In milk, the odor of sour milk is caused by relatives of the bugs that create bad breath when they break down proteins in the milk (and basically in all dairy foods). A reaction takes place where ‘the bad breath bugs’ extract sulfur compounds from the amino acids in these proteins. Specifically, the amino acid Cysteine is converted to Hydrogen Sulfide (which has a rotten egg smell) and Methionine becomes Methyl Mercaptan (which smells like a cross between old socks and garlic). The same analogy applies to meat if it sits out too long. Everyone knows that onions and garlic will create bad breath. But do you know why? It’s because the odorous molecules in onions and garlic are actually sulfur compounds themselves called Mercaptans. Sulfur is nature’s way of creating odors. You’re all familiar with the skunk. Its odor is created by a defense and/or attack mechanism. Skunk odor is made up of skatoles, which are naturally occurring sulfur compounds. In a similar fashion, bacteria in your mouth creates the volatile sulfur compounds of bad breath and taste disorders. There are 4 food categories that will result in an increase of sulfur production because these categories have a stimulating affect on the bacteria that cause bad breath: 1. Drying Agents 2. Dense Protein Foods 3. Sugars 4. Acidic Foods Let’s look closely at each of these food categories and how they stimulate bad breath! DRYING AGENTS The most common drying agent in food is alcohol. Alcohol of course, is the basis of all “adult” beverages such as beer, wine, and hard liquor. It is also used, unfortunately, in many mouthwashes you find in the grocery stores, which only makes a bad breath problem worse. Alcohol, known chemically as a desiccant, is used quite often in laboratories to “dry out” hard to reach areas in test tubes and beakers. The same end result takes place in the oral cavity. Although cigarettes are not really food, smoking is probably the quickest way to dry out your mouth, with alcohol being the second. If you smoke, you are bound to have bad breath! DENSE PROTEIN FOODS Dairy foods are notorious for creating bad breath. An article that appeared in the “Los Angeles Times” once noted that over 50% of the population in Southern California was “lactose intolerant”. With regards to bad breath, many of these people (numbering in the tens of millions) end up with more dense proteins available as bad breath fuel for the bacteria than those who have no problem with dairy foods like milk, cheese, yogurt, ice cream, etc. The end result is a buildup of amino acids, which are easily converted into volatile sulfur compounds by the anaerobic bacteria found within the surface of your tongue and throat. To a lesser extent, people have the same problem with other types of food that are considered to be dense in protein such as beef, chicken, and fish. Another problem, thankfully rare, has to do with people who have an inability to break down certain proteins found in beans. This condition is called TMA (Trimethylaminuria) and is sometimes known as the “Fish Odor Syndrome,” because the odor produced is similar to decaying fish. The odor consists of sulfur compounds, plus nitrogen compounds (amines). People with this condition must abstain from beans and other types of food that are dense in protein. SUGARS Wouldn’t it be great if we could get rid of bad breath by chewing on M&Ms? Or what if the cure for bad breath were Hershey Kisses? That’s what the makers of Altoids would have you believe. Altoids, and other products of the same ilk, are trying to fool the public into believing that a strong “good” taste in your mouth is equivalent to the “freshness” of your breath. This is so anti-scientific it’s absurd! If you think about it for a minute, it really doesn’t make any sense. By using concentrated mint flavorings, your taste buds pick up mint as a taste. However, Altoids contains two types of sugar which again, are a fuel for the bacteria to reproduce and create more sulfur compounds - thus bad breath. In addition, the frightening part is that other bacteria can take the sugars and produce glycan strands, which in turn end up causing thick layers of plaque on the enamel of your teeth and around your gums. This leads to tooth decay and gum disease - and you guessed it - worse breath than you started with! Since you can’t smell your own breath, you just go merrily along with that great strong mint taste in your mouth, while others close to you are backing away - backing away from your increased bad breath, decayed teeth, and gross, swollen, bleeding gums! Stay away from candies, mints, and chewing gum if they contain sugar! Instead, let me recommend an alternative created by TheraBreath called the TheraBreath Oxygenating Chewing Gum (http://www.therabreath.com/products.asp?CAT=5). It releases Oxygen molecules directly into your mouth and also contains the antibacterial agent, Zinc Gluconate. This agent is found in many cold medications. In addition it contains Xylitol, which is a natural sweetening agent with an anti-decay compound. ACIDIC FOODS Foods with a high acidic content are a problem as well. pH is a term used to describe the acidity of an environment. The oral cavity has a normal pH of 6.5 (7 is considered neutral). Some of the foods you should watch out for are coffee and many citrus juices. Both decaffeinated and regular coffee contain acids. However, tea is okay. Among the citrus juices the ones with the highest acidic content include tomato juice, orange juice, pineapple juice, and grapefruit juice. We know that acids make the bacteria reproduce much faster. In order to decrease the production of odorous sulfur compounds, the acid environment needs to be neutralized. What can you learn from all this? Avoiding foods that contribute to, if not cause, bad breath is vital if you want to have clean fresh breath. While this is a difficult task, being aware of these bad breath causing elements is the first step in developing confidence in your breath. In addition, it is important to use oral care products that are free of alcohol, sugar, and that also have a high pH level. Invite On A Dime - 8 Tips For Budget Friendly Wedding Invitations and Stationery

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

By Cori Locklin Your wedding stationery is your first opportunity to wow your guests and give them a prelude for fabulous things to come. This is your chance to foreshadow the style of your wedding, so take advantage. But dont let memorable wedding invitations and stationery spell the end to your carefully planned wedding budget. With these simple suggestions, you can make an impressive impact without breaking the bank. Cut That Guest List! Youve heard it before, and youll hear it againdownsize the number of invitees. Forget inviting every person youve ever known; your stationery costs increase exponentially by the number you need to print. So for every guest deemed unnecessary, voila instant savings! K.I.S.S. When selecting a design, remember to Keep It Simple, Sister (no, not stupid). Custom graphics and colored inks all increase the bottom line. Try to stick to one color, and select a classic design that is clean and elegant. Learn your Lingo The printing method you choose impacts the price, so go ahead and familiarize yourself with the common printing methods and their costs. Engraving, which results in raised print that is pressed through the back, is the most formal and elegant printing technique - but it will cost you. If your wedding budget is extremely tight, laser printing is your least expensive option. For a complete list of printing methods and their costs, visit the wedding invitation guide at Elegala.com Lighten Up A stationery rule of thumb - the more your wedding invitation weighs, the more it costs. Not only are bulky papers more expensive, but heavier invitations cost more at the postage meter. So if you found a design you love but cant afford, re-create it on lighter weight papers and include less inserts. Consider losing the inner envelope, and use response postcards instead of cards with envelopes. Mind the Meter When multiplied by hundreds, postage costs add up quickly. Beyond using light paper and eliminating extraneous inserts, there are other tricks to keep postage costs at a minimum. Bring your wedding invitations and other mailings to the post office and have them metered for the exact amount, instead of buying stacks of stamp books and rounding up to the nearest 39 cent mark. Also keep in mind that square or any oddly shaped envelopes incur an extra charge at the meter, so choose a design that fits in a standard envelope. Eliminate the Extras While it can be fun to go wild with your wedding invitations and stationery, superfluous extras come with a cost. So choose only those stationery items that apply to your event. Save-the-date cards are not mandatory; consider skipping them if most of your guests are in town and your wedding date doesnt fall during a peak holiday time. If your reception and ceremony will take place at the same location, you can eliminate the separate reception card from your wedding invitation. A map and directional may be unnecessary if the reception is across the street from the ceremony. Shop Savvy You may be surprised to find the very same wedding invitation or other stationery item offered for a number of different prices. Thats right some retailers have higher markups than others big shocker. While paper boutiques often have beautiful merchandise, mail-order outlets or online retailers may offer better deals (the boutiques have to cover higher overhead costs). So be a savvy shopper - find a design you like, then shop around to get it at the best price. Make Like Martha Calling all Martha Stewart wannabes! If youve got the creative knack, we say go for it and make your own wedding stationery. Sure, its time consuming, but the end result can be priceless. Not only will you cherish a one-of-a-kind keepsake customized to the style and theme of your event, but chances are youll save a pretty penny too. Battle of the Three Turkish Beauties and the Swimsuit King

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

By Jim Masters Swimsuit King goes down! Anyone who knows anything about women’s designer swimwear is familiar with the Zeki Triko brand — whose retail bathing suit prices make us blanch. The Turkish company’s founder/owner, Zeki Başeskioğlu is internationally famous, his bathing suits routinely show up in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, and he has boosted the careers of any number of world-class super-models including Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, and Eva Herzigova. Now in his 70’s, Zeki has been cast by some in the media as a ‘professor of beauty’ — and the other day he let it go to his head. In an interview for Hafta Sonu Dergisi (one of Turkey’s largest selling weekly magazines), he said that 3 of Turkey’s most beautiful and popular female mega-stars were over the hill and too fat to wear his bikini bathing suits anymore. And he named names…Hlya Avşar, Glben Ergen and Sibel Can. Ouch! You can’t get any bigger than that. “To wear a bikini well you need to be tall, elegant — and to have beautiful, upstanding breasts,” he said. As for Hlya, Glben and Sibel, well… the professor advised, “The bikini age for those 3 is past. They’ve all become too fat. Because of that, they each need to switch out of bikinis and into one piece suits — which are much more appropriate for them.” Rumors of volcano eruptions in the camps of the 3 beauties surfaced immediately in the Turkish press, but five days passed before just one of the ladies offered up a public riposte to the Zeki Bey insult. And it was a zinger. Asked by a Hrriyet Gazetesi reporter about her opinion of ‘Professor’ Zeki’s remark, Glben Ergen said, “I really can’t say — because I don’t wear (cheap) locally-made bikinis like his.” You could almost hear the cheers from the other two beauties as ‘the Professor’ sank below the surface, in flames. Close Kept Secrets to Weight Loss Lesson #17

Monday, February 25th, 2008

By Tami Close God is the most awesome force that we have. Every time we are off track, we just need to ask ourselves one question. Why am I disconnecting from Him? I have previously written about a favorite author of mine, Florence Scovel Shinn. She has written many books, one of which is called The Game of Life and How to Play It. This is the book that helped me change my thoughts when I was very ill. I read it over and over and over again to help me create a different pattern of thought. It was an absolute gift to me and I would encourage you to get it. In addition, I just recently got her book entitled The Wisdom of Florence Scovel Shinn. This is a compilation of four of her books. I use these books in my daily devotion to stay connected to God. The messages are so incredibly powerful, yet simple. Staying connected to God in every thought that we have is the answer. Let go and let God. Surrender! I am going to use part of her book to illustrate some points: All life is high vibration. You combine with what you notice, or you combine with what you vibrate to. If you are vibrating injustice and resentment you meet it on your pathway, at every step. You will certainly think it is hard world and that everybody is against you. Hermes Trismegistus said several thousands of years ago, To change your mood you must change your vibrations. I make it even stronger: I say, to change your world, you must change your vibrations. Turn on a different current in your battery of thought, and youll see the difference immediately. Suppose you have been resenting people and saying you are not appreciated. Make the statement: God appreciates me, therefore, man appreciates me, I appreciate myself. The law of laws, is to do unto others as you would be done by; for, whatever you send out comes back and what you do to others will be done to you. So, the woman who refrains from criticism, saves herself from criticism. Critical people are always being criticized. They also have rheumatism, for acid thoughts produce acid in the blood, which causes pain in the joints. Be undisturbed by a situation and it falls away. When we react, when we judge, when we resist, we are disconnecting from God. All of these emotions are fear-based. As Wayne Dyer says, If you knew who walked beside you at all times, you would have no fear. Recently, I had an e-mail conversation with a friend and it went back and forth several times. This friend had a lot of anger in his words. Instead of reacting, I remained calm and it was absolutely amazing. My last e-mail to him, I wrote Lets give this to God. He then responded with more anger, but I was not moved; I had complete peace. A short time later, this friend e-mailed me and was very kind. I use this to illustrate that it is about always remaining connected to our Source. I have to remind myself as well as I can get off track very easily. Remember, 7 year old Tami who wants to stick her tongue out and say, Neener, neener, neener. Youre not the boss of me. Sometimes she still comes out, but its my ego talking. This is what Wayne Dyer says of EGOEdging God Out. Look at where you need to connect to Him and just plug the connection back in. Then feel the power light up your world. Your power source is back and illuminating UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! I love you and know youre working on yourself to create the healthy choices in your weight loss goals. Easy Guide To Sustainable Weight Loss

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

By Gail Dennis Weight loss is not impossible, (except in those rare cases where medical reasons are issues -sans obesity) it does not mean deprivation, or a difficult, boring or repetitious diet. Diet is the consumption of food and drinks. Elimination of any or all of a specific food group may lead to a reduction of weight, however, re-introduction of previously “banned” foods may also lead to additional weight gain. So what is the solution to permanent weight loss? Certain diets that concentrate on eliminating carbohydrates and increasing the intake of protein can lead to weight loss. Over time, no carbohydrate diets can lead to negative secondary effects - excess iron levels in the blood, kidney problems, and constipation. Low carbohydrate diets promote rapid weight loss by promoting undesirably high concentration of ketone bodies. (Ketone bodies - Acetocetate, Acetone and B-hydroxybutyrate- are formed when fatty acids are used to obtain energy). To lose weight a calorie deficit must be created, or calorie intake must be lower than calorie output. 1) Be aware of the calories in what you eat and drink. Drinks can be a major source of calories, for example a 12 oz can of soft drink is about one and a half to two servings. 2) Change snacks - chips, cookies, etc, replace them with low-calorie snacks such as apples, carrots, raw or blanched vegetables and whole grain snacks. 3) Feeling hungry between main meals? Drink 8oz of water and wait ten minutes. Still hungry, have a high fiber snack. 4) Be selective. Eat filling foods with the least calories. Eat slowly, enjoy the food and the company. 5) Eating out, share an entree; ask for 1/2 portions. Skip the sweet dessert, have fresh fruit. 6) Walking is the one exercise most everyone can do. Start slow and increase distance and speed gradually. Or double the distance every week. Good goal 2 miles a day. Save money! walk the neighbourhood, the city park. 7) Tone-up. Pump iron. Not ready to join a gym, find fitness and exercise books in local library. Check the discount section for exercise videos and DVDs. Follow a TV exercise program. 8) Enlist the help of family and friends. Take an active role in meal planning. 9) Start a diary or journal, write in it everyday. Write down realistic goals. Set small milestones 10) Remember weight gain did not happen overnight, it takes time. Surgical Solutions If the Appearance of Your Ears Bothers You

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

By Ricardo Silva For many people, the appearance of the ears can be something that generates a lot of self-conscious activity. There are surgical solutions that can let you pursue any haircut you want. Surgical Solutions If the Appearance of Your Ears Bothers You Big ears. Pointy ears. Ears sticking out to far. Large earlobes. There are a number of complaints people have about their ears of which these are only a few. At first glance, ear enhancements may seem like a very small percentage of all plastic surgical procedures undertaken. This assumption is entirely incorrect. The appearance of ones ears can be a major issue for each of us. Our ears are located on the focal point, the head, of our body. They are as much a part of the physical impression we give people as our nose. If you catch people glancing at your ears when they speak to you, you know this is the case. Fortunately, surgical solutions exist and are a very popular procedure in the plastic surgery field. Medically known as Otoplasty, plastic surgeons perform frequent surgeries to enhance the appearance of patients ears. Unlike most plastic surgical procedures, the enhancement is not pre-defined. It depends entirely on the condition of the ears and how the patient is bothered by the condition. The most common complaints are the ears are too large or stick out from the side of the head too much. Otoplasty is a method for dealing with both. Ear surgery is most often done at a younger age. Given the effect on psychological development and the inherent teasing abilities of other children, this is hardly surprising. This psychological impact is so established that otoplasty is one of the few cosmetic surgeries that health insurance may cover. Obviously, you should check with your insurance carrier to see if this is the case in your situation. Depending on the situation, ear surgery can take a couple of hours or longer. The exact procedure cant be described because it depends on the specific condition each patient has. That being said, general anesthesia is often used, but the procedure is usually done on an outpatient basis with no hospitalization required. Recover time is usually a week or so and the changes are permanent. If your ears are a constant source of aggravation, you need not continue to suffer. Ear enhancement is a fairly common procedure and one that can make a major difference to children and adults. Ricardo de Silva is with PlasticSurgeonPractices.com - a directory of plastic surgeons. How to Break a Weight Loss Plateau

Monday, February 18th, 2008

By Aimee Deak Healthy eating has become part of your life, but youre still 10 or less pounds short of your goal weight. Dont worry. This happens to most people. It may be that your body likes the weight you are at and does not want to give up anymore fat. Every body has a set point. You can change this if you really are adamant about reaching your original goal weight. Here are lists of things to change that will jumpstart your weight loss again: 1. Make changes to your weight training routine. If you have been doing a full body workout you should switch to a split routine. Do your upper body one day and your lower body on your next weight training day or work your muscles in groups (ex: Day 1 Legs / Day 2 Chest & Triceps / Day 3 Back, Shoulders & Biceps) 2. Change the type of exercises you are doing for each body part. For instance, if you have been doing the Seated Chest Press and Pec Deck for your chest, switch to a Flat Bench Press and Dumbbell Flyes. You will actually see better results if you use free weights instead of machines. 3. Change the type of cardio you are doing. Your body gets used to the same routine after about 4 weeks. If you have been doing the treadmill for your cardio workout for more than 4 weeks, switch to the stationary bike, the elliptical or the stair stepper. 4. Make some dietary changes. For a short while (6 weeks or less) you can remove the starchy carbohydrates from your last 2 meals. Replace the starch with vegetables. Never remove all the carbohydrates from your diet. 5. Zig Zag your caloric intake. Eat low (1400) calories for 3 days in a row, and then have one higher calorie day. Increase your calories by 25% for your high calorie day. (1750 calories). 6. Make sure you are eating ONLY whole-grain, unprocessed carbohydrates. White flour and processed carbohydrates such as bread can cause an insulin spike, which in turn promotes fat storage. Eat foods low on the Glycemic Index to help avoid insulin spikes. http://www.aim4nutrition.com/glycemicindex.com 7. If you eat dairy, make sure it is fat free. Since dairy is processed, is it best to keep it to a minimum, especially cheese. There is also evidence that the protein in dairy products may leach calcium from your bones. The best sources of calcium are plant sources such as green, leafy vegetables and soy products like tofu and soy milk. 8. If youve reached a plateau, maybe its time to try something totally different. Instead of your regular cardio plan, sign up for a martial arts class or a boxing class. They will not only get your heart pumping but also help to make you mentally disciplined. Try martial arts or boxing classes as your only form of cardio 1 or 2 days a week. Continue with weight training at least 3 days per week. For your Off Days, take a nice long leisurely walk. Making just a few of these changes can help you break that dreaded plateau and re-start your fat loss. By Jason King The time after the first date can be a very emotional experience. The excitement of what to do next can be racing through someones mind. These emotions are magnified even further if the date was a success. This however is a time to slow down and play it cool. The last thing anyone wants to do is scare of a potential Mr or Mrs right. There are many excited singles longing to reach for the phone at the first opportunity. Getting to know someone doesnt need to be achieved within a few days, its a process that needs to take time. The relationship needs space to breath. A day or two after the first date is a perfect time to collect thoughts, and as they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder. When you do get around to that first phone call remember to stay relaxed and dont come across as being infatuated. Try to get a sense of how the date went for the other person. When the time is right mention how the date went for you, and see what type of response you get. If its a positive one you have the option of talking about another date, or playing it cool a little longer. Maybe call them again in another couple of days, but still leave them with the feeling that you are very interested. You dont want to give them the impression you are not as this could put doubts in their mind. The next call should be about the second date if you havent mentioned it in the previous call. Arrange a quiet place for the date so you can still chat in comfort, and get to know them a bit more. As the dates progress, adding fun to them can bring two people closer. Trying an activity for the first time like bowling can create some humor. Learn to laugh together, its a very romantic emotion. The time after your first date can be an exciting, emotional experience. Remember to relax, play it cool, and dont come across as being infatuated, and everything should run along smoothly.
